Nerves are settling in............ Ocean Floor Race is in 7 Weeks

Wello (short for well hello there)

I am normally a Facebook addict, but now moving up into the world of blogging, some say I should have been a blogger since the age of 3... more of a #waffleblogger me thinks.  Well here we go, my name is Janet Willicott aka Jani, J, Jay, Janny, Janie, Janimoo, Hils and Mom and more recently my  lovely lec calls me "Willicott" (I say nothing); I am a 40+ something mature yet free spirited red headed leo woman - (make up your own conclusions), consultant, full time mother, full time Bio and Environmental Health Science student,  - Altruistic Cassandra, True to Self, Proud Mother, Charitable Trustee, Well Read Educated Woman  (who can't spell), Lover of the World ad Everything it Encompasses who Abhors Manipulation.

I am a mom to a wonderful young boy man called Bastian Atreyu (If you are as old as I am you will remember a movie called the Never Ending Story...the name should ring those bells).  Bastian is a very unique child, as like all children are  unique in their own way, however Bastian was born with a rare gene and is now one of 4 children in the world.  He has agenesis of the brain, which affect his Corpus Callosum, which in turn affects his processing, speech, every day tasks and a million other tasks.  He cant read or write, and never will; however its taken 8 years to teach him to be able to write his name and more recently his surname, if that is all he can manage I have done my job.

However he is a wiz at an iPad and iPhone and can make a mean loaf of bread! Who needs more than a load of bread and an iPad in todays world????

Why the long intro about Bastian, well my son is my motivator and inspiration, he gets me through those dark dark dark days and now that he is more settled and that most of his hospital appointments, operations  and tests are slowly down, I am finding that I actually exist in this world.  Which brought me to my life long dream of running across a desert.
(Don't ask, if you refer to the above..."40 something mature yet free spirited red headed Leo woman - make up your own conclusions").

So here I sit typing my first blog entry, where do I start, what do I say, well I can cover a lot in 40 years, but lets start with the now.

My nerves are setting in....... I have 7 weeks left until my first ever Ultra Marathon Race, I will be running (walking and even crawling) across the Egyptian White Desert in the Ocean Floor Race on the 23rd March 2014.

160 Miles in 96 hours - (YES YOU DID READ CORRECTLY) now that I have more time and with the inspiration from my son and a life long dream at my disposable and with 7 weeks to go, this blog will start detailing the run up to my life long dream, and my experiences of training since January 2013, my equipment, my thoughts, daily grind and  exciting news.

I am running this Desert Race, for two reasons, for myself and my dream and secondly to raise money for two charities:

Brainwave Charity - They are specialist therapists who look after children like my son - every child matters.
